Giuseppe Toscanini was from Bogli, Italy, and started trading in timber in 1920 at Isolella Sesia.

In the 1930s, Giovanni, Giuseppe’s son, started making knives - his wife, Angela, helped him by stamping the knives with the name ‘Toscanini Isolella’ and would sell them, taking them to market in Trivero. They patented the knife in 1933.

In the 1940s, Ettore, Giovanni and Angela’s son, took over the family business and started to produce wooden hangers, selling them through department stores and wholesalers.

In 1954 Ettore constructed a new factory and also started selling in the United States.

In the 1960s Toscanini patented room valets and tie racks.

The introduction of plastic products in the 1970s slowed down their production so he created a range of mules, made from cork and wood (beech, alder, cork and wawa). The ‘Made by Toscanini’ mules conquered the Italian markets and they produced 500,000 pairs per season.

In the 1980s they got sponsorship from Valentino and the fashion house commissioned Toscanini for a clothes hanger for its boutiques.

In 2010 Toscanini created the SuMisura range, which included hangers that could be customised, including sizes for children.

Toscanini is now being run by the fourth generation of the family, Giovanni, Cristina and Federica, Ettore’s children.
