Orrefors
Orrefors was established in Sweden in 1898 by Johan August Samuelsson on the site of an old iron works. The first items to be produced were glass jars for preserving foods. When the idea of ‘more beautiful everyday goods’ started to evolve, artists Edward Hald and Simon Gate were invited to design new objects with colour and engraving – the results were popular across the world. More artists and designers joined Orrefors and the possibilities were endless. The glass made today is based on the expertise generated over more than a century.

The history of Orrefors is how the combination of lime, sand and soda can become magnificent glass objects.
In the nineteenth century Orrefors produced glass jars for preserving foods. When social movements and the notion of beautiful everyday goods became popular, Edward Hald and Simon Gate were invited to the glassworks where they began making new items using colour and engraving. These items became popular worldwide through exhibitions and interior designers.
The glass made today is based on expertise generated over more than a century and the best designers continue to fascinate the world with the beauty of glass.
