Nontron

The Coutellerie Nontronnaise is the only manufacture that produces the Nontron knife (name of the village of its birth) and is the heiress of a timeless expertise. It is part of the landscape of French regional knives. A Nontron knife is more than a style: it is a symbol they defend and a true representation of their country and know-how. The Nontron knife has ancestry and has inspired many legends dating back to the dawn of time based on both its recognisable shape and its distinctive wood burned symbol.

The blades of the Nontron folding knives are shaped like a sage leaf, manufactured in T12 steel, XC75 carbon steel or Damascus carbon steel. The T12 steel is a French steel manufactured in Bonpertuis steelworks in Isere and is less sensitive to rusting than carbon steel. The XC75 carbon steel is more sensitive to rusting but easier to sharpen. The T12 and XC75 are hot forged; once forged the blades undergo different heat treatments to guarantee the quality. The Damascus carbon steel is a result of a technique that involves stacking different layers of steel alternately. The blades of their table and paring knives are made of stainless steel.
