Mauviel 1830

Mauviel 1830, has the ability to flourish and anticipate the culinary tendencies, while preserving its DNA. The goods, destined to professionals, were originally manufactured in copper, a noble material, by definition, the best of, the heat conductors. Far from sticking to the red metal, the company has found the ability to innovate and diversify, crafting with materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminium but mostly multi-layers stainless steel, which performances equal those of copper.

Ernest Mauviel founded his workshop in 1830 and 7 generations later it is still a family business. Originally the items were manufactured in copper, later diversifying to craft with steel, cast iron, aluminium and stainless steel.

In 2006, Valerie Le Guern Gilbert, the seventh generation, took over the business, focusing on optimising the manufacturing process.

The company values progress, but remaining traditional, showing modernity in its designs.

Seventy craftsmen carve, assemble, hammer, strike polish, stamp and shape 1,300 utensils on a daily basis. The creation of pieces such as the fish kettle, require knowledge passed down through generations; all items are completed by hand, with no robotics being used, ensuring each item is made to measure.

In 2017 the profession of coppersmith became an art, which Mauviel 1830 embraces, working at continuing to respond to the increasing demand for made to measure items. In order to enjoy this tradition, they opened a training centre for manufacturing, shaping, hammering, tin-plating and embossing so that this profession can continue, with apprentices passing through the school to learn the art.
