Alain St Joanis
Each piece is unique and made in France. Their cutlery and steak knives are forged from stainless steel and are then sent to be completed in their workshop in La Monnerie-le-Montel. The forged products are hand-finished by their craftsmen who complete several steps before applying a gold or silver finish. Once the blade is forged it must go through two important stages; first is the grinding that gives the blade its sharpness and then the heat process that gives its hardness. Following these processes, a first polishing prepares the cutlery for assembly. The handles are made by specialist craftsmen. After being assembled the pieces receive a final polishing by hand.
In 2007, Alain Saint-Joanis received the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, a guarantee of the savoir-faire passed on for four generations. They have also been awarded the title ‘Atelier d’art .
