Utopia and Utility
At Utopia & Utility they believe that everything deserves to be made, and made well. They are passionate about the union of form and function. Their glass and wood objects are practical but also sculptural expressions of beauty and purpose. Working with local artisans and sustainable materials, they ensure each object supports ethical production and long lasting quality.

Utopia & Utility, specialising in modern art objects and functional sculptures, was founded by designer Pia Wüstenberg in 2012. Pia graduated from the Royal College of Arts Design Products course in London in 2011 and from 2011 to 2017 she lived and worked from a studio in Hackney, East London. Since 2017 she has lived and worked between her studios in North Germany and East Finland.
Utopia & Utility are passionate about the planet, so as well as only using natural materials, they re-use all their packaging and recycle everything they can to minimise waste.
Each part of a design is created by an individual craftsman: the glass is made in the Czech Republic and the UK, the ceramic in Italy and Germany, Brass and Copper in England, the wood is found in Finland and Germany, the stone curving is done in Italy and Finland, and the paper is sourced in Germany. Once the individual parts are created they are shipped to the workshop in Germany where the products are assembled. Everything is made by hand, allowing small batches to be produced or bespoke items in different colours to be created.
