On 13 November 1819, Johann Stanislaus Nepomuk Kuhn was born to a caretaker in Vienna.

Johann completed an apprenticeship as a silversmith and became an apprentice and a journeyman. He established a gold and silversmith in Scwabisch Gmund in 1860. Later his sons Emil and Gustav took over the business and renamed it Gebruder Kuhn.

In 1900 the company won a silver medal in tableware at the Paris World Fair. In 1911 they received the Grand Prix for functional design at the International World Expo in Turin.

Sonja Quandt took over the company in 1984 and in 2014 she renamed the brand. Each piece is hallmarked SQ or Q. The manufacturer has retained the principles set by Johann Stanislaus Nepomuk Kuhn over 150 years ago.
