Rosenthal is based in Selb, Germany, and was founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal when he established a porcelain painting business in Erkersreuth Castle. The first commercial success came in 1886 with the ?little resting place for burning cigars? ashtray. After the success of the ashtray, in 1891 he decided to produce his own porcelain.

In 1916 Philipp married his wife Maria ? he adored her so much that he named a porcelain service after her and it became a bestseller, sold by the millions.

In 1950, Philipp?s son, Philip, joined the company, and was CEO from 1958-1981.

In 1992 Rosenthal began a collaboration with Gianni Versace, which continues to this day, now in the hands of his sister, Donatella Versace. In 2023 they celebrated their 30th anniversary.

Today they develop porcelain products and interior collections for the home as well as professionals in the restaurant and hotel industry. The pieces display design, functionality, quality and manufacturing standards that have come to be expected from products made in Germany.
