On 11th January 1747, Duke Charles I ordered that a porcelain manufactory be created in Furstenberg, the second porcelain manufactory to be founded in Germany. In 1753 the Duke decreed that all porcelain items be marked with a blue ?F?, the trademark of the manufactory. In the second half of the 18th century Furstenberg vases were bestsellers and, alongside KPM, they were the only manufacturer allowed to have a retail outlet in Berlin.
In 1859 the manufactory was leased to private individuals and was converted to a public limited company in 1888. As the demand for Furstenberg art grew, an external painting facility was created in Dresden in 1906.
In 2000 Furstenberg won the bid for the official guest gift at EXPO, with national representatives from all the participating nations receiving one of a limited edition of 250 EXPO bowls, and they left their handprints in porcelain on the ?Wall of Fame?, which is now on show in the castle?s museum.
In 2022 Furstenberg celebrated its 275th anniversary.
